Panasonic augmented reality app pulls expensive TVs out of thin air
See what your room would look like with a shiny new TV, then come back to reality

If you're in the market for a new TV but simply don't know what size or model will look best in your living space, Panasonic has an iPhone app for that. Called the
Panasonic Viera AR Setup Simulator(a mouthful, for sure), the app uses augmented reality to simulate a range of TVs wherever you wish to place them.
To use the app, you must first print out an "AR marker" for the app to recognize. You then toss the marker wherever you want your virtual TV to pop up and voila, a brand new flat panel appears out of thin air on your iPhone screen. There are two different marker types depending on if you prefer your TV sitting on a flat surface or mounted on a wall, and the app will send both templates to whatever email you provide.
We've seen augmented reality apps before — we've even let them endow us with
a pair of virtual shades — but we've never had an app show us what our living rooms would look like if we were a thousand dollars poorer. Now we know, and it looks good.
